MWRT-2025 – day 2 in Wyandotte

I’m living the dream, I just don’t know who’s?

Well, yesterday was a really full day and a lot of fun. It started with breakfast which I had half of a ham steak left over from the day before plus I cut up an H-E-B cantaloupe that I brought along for the trip. Unfortunately, I left half of that cantaloupe in the refrigerator in my room as I got back on the road this morning ,oops !

While at breakfast, I updated my blog and then set out to the indigo sky casino once again, which was a half an hour away since I stayed in the cheapest hotel I could find in Econolodge in Missouri.

Once I got to the casino, I saddled up to the two deck table and played for an hour and a half. Things went OK ,was maybe a little ahead maybe a little behind but probably about breakeven. The table filled up with other players and things got really slow, but the six deck table next to mine was empty and the dealer waiting to play so I just moved over to that table and began.

I proceeded to play for the next 6 1/2 hours on that six deck table. The dealers all recognized me at this point and we’re really friendly and we had a lot of conversation about life, vacations, travel, and other things as I played. Luck was up and down with this session With the last couple of shoes really telling the entire story.

Going into the second to last shoe that I played that afternoon, I was about breakeven for the day when luck turned sour for the remainder of the shoe and I went down around six or $800. The shoe ended and I decided it was time to leave after the next shoe, hoping that it would turn out better.

And better it was. This shoe was the best shoe of the trip so far cards kept coming out my way, increasing my bets to the point where I have my max bet on the table hand after hand and winning them while the pit boss looked on scowling as I was raking in the chips. By the end of the shoe I had recovered everything that I’d lost and was back to breakeven, and it was time to leave with the pit boss given me an evil eye.

It was just about dinner time and I hadn’t had a thing to eat all day and while playing I had conversation with some local golfers that played tournaments out near Grand Lake at a golf course called Battlefield. It was located in a section of the lake called Monkey Island . It was about 40 minutes away so I drove over and it was a beautiful area. Great lake looks like it really good boating and fishing and the golf course was magnificent. I found a restaurant that looked really good along the lake called The Shebang. Went in and sat down at the bar to order dinner.  Had some Cajun shrimp and a baked potato and talked to the folks at the bar who had appeared to be just finished golfing.

I was curious, so I asked them how the area came to be known as monkey Island? They kinda looked at each other, unsure about what to say and finally one of them spoke up and said well it’s not really too interesting. A story I think you can Google it. Wow that did really satisfied but OK monkey Island it is. After I finished dinner headed back where I came upon a small memorial park apparently owned and established by the golf course owner as a tribute to the heroes of World War II. This was a really fine display of World War II armament in a small well kept garden type setting along the lake edge. I was really impressed with it. what a fun experience.

It was in time to get some rest get up early the next morning and head to St. Louis more to come later.
