MWRT 2025 – Second day in Kansas City

Today my venture continued at the Kansas City Argosy Casino. This was a very attractive and comfortable casino and it reminded me of the Paris Casino in Las Vegas with a contoured “clouds” style interior ceiling with old country decorations and niches all around the interior design.

Played heads up for first hour and then with 2 players. Watched closely for signs of heat as I didn’t want to be fliered before going to Harrah’s and Bally’s. Being “fliered” is when a casino that doesn’t like it when you win too much. They will take your photo and name if they have it, describe you and send a warning to neighboring casinos to be on the watch for you. This can really hamper your ability to get any hours playing in town, the region, or even the entire state. I’ve been playing anonymously so they would not have my name if ever I was to draw too much attention.

The Pit Boss didn’t pay much attention to me. But when I bounced my bet from $50 to $300, a call came in on the phone in the pit. The PB answered the phone, looked up at the computer terminal, and typed something into the terminal, spoke for a minute, then hung up and immediately came to monitor my game. I’d drawn too much attention, but not before winning multiple top bets. The shoe was over so before he approached the dealer, I colored up and got out of there. A very productive hour and a half.

After leaving Argosy Casino I headed over to Harrah’s casino of Kansas City. The game at Argosy and Harrah’s is a Double Deck game.

Playing Double Deck is much different than 6 deck because with only 104 cards to start with, when you play only a few hands, the composition of the remaining cards can shift swiftly. It means the kinds of hands you and the dealer are dealt can have a lot more Black Jacks and Twenty’s or a lot more multi-card hands to get to less than 21 or bust. There aren’t any long trends of card compositions coming out like when you are playing 6 or 8 deck. If you are changing your bet size a lot, this can be very good or very bad. After playing a few hours during which I was up and down, I was struck with a losing streak right before I had planned to go have some dinner. I ended up giving back what I had gained at the Argosy. That ended the day and I went back to the hotel to get a good night rest.

I was planning to drive to Milwaukee Wisconsin the next morninng but I wanted to make one short stop in KC at the Bally’s of Kansas City just so I could collect a souvenir dollar chip. I was looking for Double Deck game here as well. However, there was only one six deck table open so early in the morning. I sat down to play a couple of shoes before hitting the road.

The Bally’s casino was designed inside to resemble a schooner ship or the like but had been remodeled to remove most the the style leaving the interior design to be remarkably depressing and confusing to get around as there was very poor or almost no signage. The Tiki Bar was all that really remained from the glory days.

On the second shoe I caught a good string of cards and colored up with a tidy profit and headed out.

My next stop was Milwaukee, the Potawatomi Casino.
